Mertz Goal With A Second Left Earns Cleveland State Men's Soccer a Draw at RMU

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Cleveland State (4-2-5, 2-0-3) used a header off a corner with seven seconds left in regulation to rescue a point at Robert Morris (4-2-5, 2-0-3), 1-1, on Saturday afternoon.

With the draw, the Vikings extended their unbeaten streak to eight straight, tied for the longest under coach Ubiparipovic.

The Green and White took two shots in the first half while holding the Colonials to none.

Robert Morris broke the stalemate in the 85th minute on Jack Bejarano's third goal of the year. It looked like CSU would suffer its first loss of the year in league play until Tom Mertz headed in a corner from Lennart Heck with one second left.

The Vikings held a 10-4 edge in shots and doubled up in shots on goal, 4-2.

Peleg Armendariz had three shots, with two on frame. Djordje Petrovic and Uzman Ramees each had two shots off the bench. Ryan Poling made one save in goal.

Cleveland State returns to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 18 at Detroit Mercy, kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
