CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will begin the 2025 spring season this weekend, hosting Marshall and Dayton, before traveling to Ohio State.

This weekend's matches will be the first of 22 scheduled matches for the Vikings this spring, with the contests on Friday and Saturday marking the first of 10 home matches this season.

Cleveland State returns five letterwinners from last season's team that claimed the #HLTennis Regular Season title and advanced to the championship match of the Horizon League Tournament. Included in this group is two-time Player of the Year
Oihane Vicario and All-League honorees
Sima Heren and
Tereze Vevere. In addition,
Ella Franz and
Filippa Frogner also return for the Vikings, while true freshmen
Melliz Petkova Mustafa and
Jenna Redmile joined CSU prior to the fall season.

Following a five-tournament fall campaign,
Tereze Vevere has a team-best 11 singles wins on the year, while
Sima Heren has nine and
Oihane Vicario has eight. In doubles action, Vevere and
Ella Franz have an 11-2 record on the year, while Heren and Vicario stand at 8-3 so far this season.

Entering the spring season,
Tereze Vevere and
Oihane Vicario both rank in the top-10 on the CSU Singles Wins List, Vevere tied for third with 74 career wins and Vicario sixth with 73 victories. In addition, Vevere and
Ella Franz rank second on the Doubles Wins List with 53 career wins.

Earlier this month the Vikings were selected as the preseason favorite in the Horizon League Poll, picking up 47 points and five first-place votes. This marks the second straight season that the Vikings were selected as preseason favorites, while it marks the sixth time that Cleveland State has been picked to finish in the top-two.
Head Coach Frank Polito
Frank Polito is in his seventh year at the helm of the Vikings and 13
th year overall at Cleveland State, owning a 74-55 dual match record as head coach. During Polito's tenure, the Vikings have captured five Regular Season Horizon League titles and have made four #HLTennis Championship Match appearances.
