CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Vikings (2-1-2) suffered their first loss of the year against Mercyhurst (1-3-0) by a score of 2-0 on Thursday night.
The Lakers scored the lone goal of the first half in the 40th minute as Luis Felipe Santos capitalized on a deflection in the back to lead 1-0.
Mercyhurst added on an insurance goal in the 77th minute when Alvar Silva scored off a through ball from Cade Wurstner to win 2-0.
The visitors held an 11-8 advantage in shots during the contest.
Marko Rimac led the way with three shots including two on frame.
Stephen Yerian finished with five saves.
Cleveland State plays its first Horizon League game of the year on Saturday, September 14 at Oakland. The contest is set to begin at 7 p.m.
