Cleveland State Men's Soccer Downed in #HLMSOC Opener to Oakland, 2-1

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Cleveland State (2-2-2, 0-1-0) dropped its Horizon League opener to Oakland (2-4-0, 1-0-0) on the road, 2-1.

The Vikings had a chance to get on the board in the third minute as Oakland was called for a foul in the box, setting up a penalty kick for Bojan Kolevski. However, Kolevski's attempt was saved.

Cleveland State took the 1-0 lead in the 14th minute after Marko Rimac curled a shot into the upper right corner off a pass from William Wagner. Four minutes later, Oakland drew even off a free kick from just outside the box.

The Golden Grizzlies took the lead in the 41st minute off a counter as Jack Klomparens shot went off the right post and rolled in. The Green and White went into the half trailing 2-1 despite holding a 10-6 edge in shots.

Oakland nearly extended the advantage in the 58th minute with a breakaway off a through ball from midfield, but Stephen Yerian made a huge save. The home team had one more chance to add an insurance goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went off the post.

The Green and White were unable to find the back of the net in the final three minutes to fall on the road, 2-1.

The Vikings dominated the shot count on the night, 19-9, and 11-4 in shots on goal. Cleveland State also held an 8-0 edge in corners. M. Rimac and Kolevski each finished with six shots, while Kolevski had four shots on frame. Yearian came up with two saves on the night.
