Viking Sports Weekly {September 23}

Volleyball
-Cleveland State will open its Horizon League slate this weekend, hosting Northern Kentucky in a two-match series on Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28.
-Last time out, the Vikings extended their current win streak to five straight matches, picking up back-to-back wins against Kent State and Akron to close out non-league play.
-Heading into league play Allana Appleby (1.27 blocks/set) and Emma Walker (5.03 digs/set) lead all #HLVB players in their respective stat categories, while Liberty Torres (4.08 kills/set) and Ella Mihacevich (9.50 assists/set) rank second.

Men's Soccer
-Cleveland State will continue the 2024 campaign on the road this week, traveling to Green Bay on Saturday, September 28.
-Last time out, the Vikings earned a 2-2 draw against Detroit Mercy to pick up their first league point of the season.
-Playing in just the second half, Oskar von Esebek scored the first goal and assisted on the game-tying goal.

Women's Soccer
-The Vikings will split their time at home and on the road this week, hosting Northern Kentucky on Thursday, September 26, before traveling to Wright State on Sunday, September 29.
-Cleveland State opened Horizon League play on the road last week, traveling to Purdue Fort Wayne and IU Indy.

Cross Country
-Cleveland State will have the week off from competition, returning to the course on Friday, October 4 for the Joe Piane Invitational hosted by Notre Dame.
-Last time out, Natalie Keller paced the Vikings at the All-Ohio Classic, placing 10th overall with a 6K time of 23:01 as the top DI finisher.

Swimming & Diving
-The Vikings will open the 2024-25 season at home on Saturday, September 28, hosting Valparaiso.
-The meet will mark the first for new head coach Trent Richardson.
-In the #HLSD Preseason Poll, the men were picked third and the women were selected fourth.

Men's Tennis
-The Vikings will host their first of two home tournaments of the fall season this weekend, welcoming teams to the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion for the inaugural Horizon League Individual Championships Friday, September 27 – Sunday, September 29.
-The singles and doubles winner of this weekend's tournament will earn an entry into the ITA Conference Masters Championship in San Diego, Calif. later this fall.
-Cleveland State opened the fall campaign at the WMU Invite and ITA All-American Championships last weekend, with Lincoln Battle advancing to the second round of the Pre-Qualifying Draw at the ITA All-Americans, while Cole Chappell and Nico Jamison were named to the WMU Invite All-Tournament Team.

Women's Tennis
-Cleveland State will have the week off from competition, returning to action at the Horizon League Individual Championships Friday, October 4 – Sunday, October 6.
-Last time out, the Vikings opened their fall campaign at the Princess Hotels College Cup, with Tereze Vevere, Jenna Redmile, Ella Franz, and Filippa Frogner all going 2-0 in singles action.

Women's Golf
-Cleveland State will continue play at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational Monday, playing 18-holes to close out the 36-hole tournament.
-After the first day, the Vikings sit sixth in the team standings, while Kaitlin Kormuth leads the individual race sitting at 3-under.

Viking Of The Week
Natalie Keller, Cross Country
Placed 10th overall at the All-Ohio Classic with a career-best 6K time of 23:01, while also serving as the top DI finisher in the race.

Tereze Vevere, Women's Tennis
Opened the fall campaign with a 2-0 singles record and a 2-0 doubles record at the Princess Hotels College Cup.

Oskar von Esebek, Men's Soccer
Scored a goal and recorded an assist on the game-tying goal for the Vikings in the 2-2 draw against Detroit Mercy.

Emma Walker, Volleyball
Averaged 5.86 digs/set on the week, helping the Vikings to back-to-back wins against Kent State and Akron, while moving into 5th place in the CSU Career Record Book with 1,324 career digs.
