INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Vikings (0-8-1, 0-2-0) came up short on the road at IU Indy by a score of 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.
The Jaguars recorded the only goal in the first half in the 22nd minute on a 35-yard free kick by Emma Frey. Cleveland State trailed 1-0 at the intermission despite holding a 6-4 edge in shots.
The Vikings pulled even in the 47th minute as Tanji Sarver put away a ball initially saved following an Erica Leinweber shot.
IUI converted a penalty kick in the 82nd minute to claim the Horizon League victory, 2-1. The second half favored the Green and White in the shot category, 13-2.
For the game, Cleveland State outshot the home team 19-6, including a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. CSU also attempted five corners in the contest.
Sarver led the game with four shots, three of which were on frame. Mayra Sesmas was close behind with three shots. Madison Ott made one save in goal.
The Vikings return to Krenzler Field to host Northern Kentucky on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m.
