CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Vikings (2-3-2, 0-1-1) used two second-half goals to earn a 2-2 draw at home against Detroit (1-5-1, 0-1-1) on Saturday night.
The Titans wasted no time getting on the board in the second minute as Drew Pierson finished a pass from Casey McCarthy off a long throw-in. Seven minutes later, Clayton Lafayette doubled the margin with a goal off a through ball from Louis Simon.
The scoreline remained 2-0 in favor of the visitors at the intermission despite the Green and White holding a 4-2 edge in shots.
Cleveland State made one sub at the break, bringing on
Oskar von Esebek, who would play a big role in the half.
The first scoring chance belonged to
Josip Rimac as the junior ripped a shot off the crossbar in the 52nd minute. One minute later, von Esebek collected his second goal of the year after finding the near post off a cross from
Quinn Groves. Von Esebek would pick up an assist in the 72nd minute as the freshman found J. Rimac for the tying goal.
Each team saw off the final 18 minutes as the game ended in a 2-2 draw and a point for each in the league standings.
The Vikings held an 11-5 advantage in shots, while each team had four shots on target.
Marko Rimac and J. Rimac each had three shots on the night. J. Rimac and von Esebek both had two shots on frame as well.
Stephen Yerian made two saves on the night.
Cleveland State hits the road on Saturday, Sept. 28 to take on Green Bay at 2 p.m.
