KENT, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team extended its current win streak to four straight matches Thursday, picking up a 3-0 victory at Kent State. With the win, the Vikings are now 8-2 overall this season.
Three Vikings finished with double-digit kills, led by
Liberty Torres with 14.
Nia Hall added 11 kills, while
JeriLynn Koehler chipped in 10.
As a team, Cleveland State finished with seven service aces, including three from
Emma Walker and two from
Ella Mihacevich.
Walker tallied a team-best 26 digs, while
Laken Voss added 11.
Koehler recorded five total blocks against Kent State, while Torres added four.
During the opening set, the Vikings were able to notch a 7-0 run midway through, gaining a 16-7 advantage on back-to-back Torres kills. Cleveland State then controlled play throughout the rest of the set, posting the final three points of the frame to earn the 25-15 first set victory.
The second set was much of the same, as a Koehler block midway through the set gave Cleveland State a 13-6 edge. Although Kent State was able to work its way back into the frame, the Vikings were able to regain a 23-22 lead on a Kent State error, before closing out the 25-23 second set victory on a Voss kill.
Cleveland State carried its momentum into the third set then, as a Torres kill put the Vikings up 16-10, before a Koehler kill gave CSU a 20-16 lead late in the frame. Despite Kent State responded with the next two points, the Vikings posted the final five points of the match, earning the 3-0 sweep.
The Vikings will close out non-league play tomorrow, hosting Akron at 6:00 p.m.
