BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Cleveland State volleyball team opened the Hokie Invitational Friday, picking up back-to-back wins against UNC Greensboro (3-1) and Virginia Tech (3-0).
The two wins improved the Vikings to 6-2 on the year, while the win against Virginia Tech marked the first win against a Power-5 school since 2016.
In the first match of the day,
Nia Hall recorded a team-best 20 kills against UNCG, while
Liberty Torres added 17.
Ella Mihacevich recorded 41 assists, helping the Vikings record a .306 hitting percentage as a team.
Defensively,
Emma Walker posted 16 digs, while
Laken Voss added 13 digs.
As a team, the Vikings combined for seven service aces on the match, including two each from
JeriLynn Koehler,
Ayva Leon and Mihacevich.
In the second match of the day, Torres recorded a double-digit kill performance, finishing with a team-best 13 kills against Virginia Tech. Mihacevich finished with 28 assists, as the Vikings once again hit over .300, finishing with a .337 clip.
Walker notched her eighth double-digit dig effort, posting a team-best 17 digs on the match.
Hall recorded five blocks against Virginia Tech, while Koehler and
Allana Appleby both recorded four.
With her 41 assists against UNCG in the opener, Mihacevich eclipsed the 2,000-assist mark for her career, ending the day with 2,047 total helpers.
In addition, Walker moved into sixth place in the CSU Career Record Book, finishing the day with 1,266 career digs.
Cleveland State will close out the Hokie Invitational tomorrow, facing Norfolk State at 12:00 p.m.
