AKRON, Ohio – Cleveland State (0-6-1) dropped its final non-league game to Akron (4-0-2) 1-0 on Thursday evening.
The Vikings held an 8-2 advantage in shots and a 3-1 edge in shots on goal during the first half, but the contest remained scoreless at the break.
Mayra Sesmas led the way with three shots, while
Tanji Sarver had two.
Akron opened the scoring just two minutes into the new half as Emma King one-touched in a cross by Olivia Heskett.
Neither team would the back of the net again as the Zips held on for the 1-0 victory.
The Green and White held a 17-7 advantage in shots and 10-4 edge in shots on goal. Sesmas was tops in the game with four shots including two on frame.
Payton Koebbe and Sarver each had three shots and two on frame.
Madison Ott made three saves in the game.
The Vikings open Horizon League play at Purdue Fort Wayne on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. and then travel to IU Indy on Sunday, Sept. 22.
