Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Opens #HLWBB Play With 67-54 Victory Over Northern Kentucky

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team returned home to begin Horizon League play Wednesday, picking up a 67-54 victory over Northern Kentucky. With the win, the Vikings are now 6-2 on the year and 1-0 in #HLWBB play.

Game Stats
-Jordana Reisma paced the Viking offense with 18 points, while Sara Guerreiro added 14 points, Mickayla Perdue tallied 12 and Macey Fegan added 10.
-Sara Guerreiro grabbed a team-best 16 rebounds, while Jordana Reisma recorded eight boards and Macey Fegan tallied seven.
-As a team, the Vikings recorded 16 assists on 23 made field goals, including five from Sara Guerreiro.
-Cleveland State held a 47-31 edge in rebounding on the night.

Game Notes
-Sara Guerreiro recorded her second double-double of the season with 14 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.
-For the fifth straight game the Vikings tallied 15+ assists after finishing with 16 on Wednesday.
-The win over Northern Kentucky marked the fourth straight season that the Vikings have won their #HLWBB opener.
-Wednesday's contest extended Cleveland State's home win streak to 26 straight games.

The Game
After taking a 30-22 edge into the halftime break, the Vikings opened their lead to 38-22 just 1:30 into the third quarter, as a 6-0 stretch extended Cleveland State's advantage to 16 points on back-to-back Mickayla Perdue baskets. Although Northern Kentucky was able to work its way back into the contest over the next five minutes, a Sara Guerreiro three-pointer at the 3:24 mark regained a double-digit lead for the Vikings at 42-31.

The Vikings then controlled play over the final two minutes of the frame, going on a 7-2 scoring run to take a 49-34 lead into the final 10 minutes of play.

During the fourth quarter, Cleveland State was able to hold a double-digit lead from start to finish, including extending its lead to 17 points at 60-43 following a Destiny Leo three-pointer and Guerreiro jumper midway through the frame. The two teams then traded baskets over the final minutes of the contest, with Cleveland State claiming the 67-54 victory in the Horizon League opener.
