Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Remains Perfect In #HLWBB Play With 85-71 Win At Wright State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team improved to 3-0 in Horizon League play Monday, picking up an 85-71 victory at Wright State. With the win, the Vikings also improve to 9-2 overall this season.

Game Stats
-Mickayla Perdue finished with a team-high 23 points, while Jordana Reisma added 16 and Sara Guerreiro chipped in 13.
-Sara Guerreiro grabbed a team-best eight rebounds, while Jordana Reisma and Destiny Leo both recorded seven boards.
-As a team, the Vikings shot 57-percent on the game, including a .667 clip during the third quarter.
-Cleveland State recorded 19 assists on the game, including five from Sara Guerreiro and four from Destiny Leo.
-The Viking defense combined for 11 steals on the game, including three from Mickayla Perdue.

Game Notes
-With 23 points on the night, Mickayla Perdue recorded her eighth 20-point game of the season.
-Cleveland State's 11 steals against Wright State marked the second double-digit steal game of the season.

The Game
A Mickayla Perdue three-pointer 30-seconds into the game opened the scoring for the Vikings, while this spurred a 10-0 run for Cleveland State over a 2:23 stretch, giving the Vikings a double-digit lead that they would go on to hold for the majority of the contest. The Vikings then closed the frame on a 12-4 run, with a Mya Moore layup giving Cleveland State a 26-10 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.

Cleveland State was able to hold off a Wright State run over the opening minutes of the second quarter then, as a 7-0 run that ended with another Perdue three-pointer at the 6:23 mark regained a double-digit lead for the Vikings at 35-21. The Vikings were then able to control play over the final half of the frame, heading into the halftime break with a 45-28 advantage.

The Vikings carried their momentum into the third quarter, as back-to-back three-pointers from Macey Fegan and Perdue put the Vikings up by 21 points at 51-30 just over one minute into the frame. Although Wright State responded with a run of its own over their next few possessions, a Sara Guerreiro three-pointer at the 6:25 mark regained a 54-37 lead for the Vikings. Cleveland State was able to extend its lead to 20-points once again a few minutes later, as a Fegan jumper put the score at 61-40 with 3:24 left in the frame, before the two teams traded baskets over the final minutes to head into the fourth quarter with the score at 65-48 CSU.

Cleveland State opened the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run then, gaining a 74-38 advantage, before another Guerreiro three-pointer put the Vikings up by 27 points at 76-49 midway through the frame. The Vikings were then able to hold off a late Raider run, coming away with the 85-71 victory to improve to 3-0 in #HLWBB play on the season.
