CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State (3-5-3) wrapped up non-league play on Tuesday evening with a 3-1 victory over Xavier (4-4-4).
Xavier wasted no time getting the scoring started as Nathan Trickett found the back of the net just 22 seconds into the game off a through ball from Michael Rogalski.
Cleveland State pulled even in the 16th minute as
Matteo Correia finished off a pair of passes from
Josip Rimac and
Bojan Kolevski.
The score remained one apiece at the half, with the Musketeers holding a 9-3 advantage in shots.
Correia bagged his second of the game and fifth of the year in the 63rd minute as the freshman finished off a through ball from
Tom Mertz.
Caleb Trowbridge put the finishing touches on the 3-1 victory with a perfectly placed free kick in the 82nd minute.
The Vikings were outshot 23-6 in the contest.
William Wagner and Correia each finished with two shots.
Ryan Poling picked up his first win of the season after recording seven saves.
Cleveland State returns to league play at home on Saturday, Oct. 12 against IU Indy for Alumni Day at 7 p.m.
