CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Vikings (4-5-3, 1-3-1) won their first Horizon League game of the season on Saturday night after defeating IU Indy (4-5-3, 1-3-1) 2-1.
Cleveland State claimed a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute behind a
Bojan Kolevski goal off a pair of assists from
Matteo Correia and
Tom Mertz. The scoreline remained the same at halftime, with the Green and White holding a 5-1 edge in shots.
The Jaguars equalized just seven minutes into the new half as Christian Nielsen finished off a cross from Ethan Vermillion.
The Vikings found the game-winner in the 80th minute as Correia scored his team-best sixth goal off a cross from Mertz.
IU Indy held a narrow 11-10 advantage in shots while both teams put four shots on target.
Kolevski led the game with three shots including two on goal.
Caleb Trowbridge and Correia each finished with two shots.
Ryan Poling won his second straight game in goal after making three saves.
The Vikings hit the road on Saturday, Oct. 19 to take on Milwaukee at 8 p.m. in Horizon League play.
