Cleveland State Men's Soccer Records Senior Night Shutout

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State (5-6-3, 2-4-1) celebrated senior night with a 3-0 shutout of Purdue Fort Wayne (6-5-2, 3-3-1) 3-0 on Saturday evening. The shutout was the second of the year and the first in league play.

The Green and White recognized six seniors before the kickoff: Ryan Poling, Anthony Calleri, Marko Rimac, RC Schmeider, Bojan Kolevski, and Quinn Groves.

The Vikings nearly got on the board in the 17th minute when Caleb Trowbridge put a shot on frame that a defender cleared off the backline. Ten minutes later, M. Rimac rocketed a shot off the crossbar to remain scoreless.

In the 31st minute, the Green and White again met the post, this time on a Kolevski missile from the right side of the box. However, CSU wouldn't be denied a third time as Kolevski finished off a pair of passes from Matteo Correia and Tom Mertz to lead 1-0 in the 38th minute.

Purdue Fort Wayne had a man sent off in the 41st minute, forcing them to play a man down for the remainder of the game. The scoreline remained 1-0 at the break with the home team holding a 10-0 edge in shots.

Cleveland State made it 2-0 in the 61st minute as Correia finished off a through ball from Kolevski. Kolevski then secured his second goal of the game in the 74th minute as the captain finished off a pass from Tom Mertz to win 3-0.

The Vikings held a 14-6 edge in shots and 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. Kolevski finished with four shots including three on frame. Mertz was close behind with three shots.

Ryan Poling recorded his first collegiate shutout after making three saves on the night.

The Vikings will now hit the road for the final time this regular season on Friday, Nov. 1 at Wright State.
