Cleveland State Women's Soccer Blanks Oakland 4-0 in Home Finale

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Vikings (2-13-1, 2-7-0) upended Oakland (3-12-2, 2-6-0) 2-0 in the home finale on Sunday afternoon. Cleveland State has now won back-to-back games via the shutout, and today was the first at home this season.

Cleveland State wasted no time getting on the board as Madi Snyder headed in a corner by Maria Bashardoust in the sixth minute. The Green and White doubled the margin in the 28th minute when Brooke Opferman finished off a pair of passes from Cortlyn Hefty and Erica Leinweber.

Opferman bagged her second goal of the game in the 34th minute off a through ball from Livia Penton to lead 3-0 at halftime.

The fourth and final goal of the game came in the 74th minute on an absolute rocket by Leinweber off a pass from Sophia Cucchetti.

Cleveland State held a 15-7 edge in shots and an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal. Leinweber led the charge with six shots, including three on frame.

Elyse Broderick picked up his second straight shutout after making two saves on the afternoon.

The Vikings conclude the 2024 regular season on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Milwaukee with a 2 p.m. start time.
