CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team got back in the win column Friday, picking up a 3-1 victory over Green Bay to open a four-match homestand. With the win, the Vikings are now 12-5 overall this season and 3-3 in #HLVB play.
Nia Hall led the Viking offense with 15 kills on a .375 hitting percentage, while
Liberty Torres added 12 kills and
Chloe List posted nine.
Ella Mihacevich recorded 44 assists on the match, helping the Vikings to a .261 hitting percentage as a team.
Defensively,
Emma Walker finished with 21 digs for her seventh 20-dig match of the season, while
Ayva Leon tallied 16 digs and
Vayda Delventhal finished with 10.
As a team, the Vikings combined for 12.0 total blocks, including eight from
Julia Jozefov.
Cleveland State also combined for seven service aces, with two each from Walker and Mihacevich.
During the opening set, the Vikings were able to gain a sizeable lead midway through the frame, extending their lead to 13-6 following back-to-back kills from
JeriLynn Koehler. Cleveland State then held the advantage for the rest of the set, closing out the frame with four straight points to earn the 25-15 victory.
After dropping the second set, the Vikings bounced back during the third frame, once again gaining a sizeable lead midway through the set. After earning a 15-6 edge on a
Lesley Marshall service ace, the Vikings maintained their momentum throughout the rest of the frame, closing out the 25-16 victory to gain a 2-1 edge in the match.
The fourth set was much tighter, as the two teams traded points throughout the entire frame, including Green Bay gaining a 22-19 advantage late in the set. The Vikings answered with three straight points to tie the set at 22-22 on a Koehler and Mihacevich block, before regaining the lead at 23-22 on a Green Bay error. The Phoenix responded with a kill on the next point, but back-to-back kills from Torres and Hall clinched the 25-23 fourth set victory for the Vikings.
Cleveland State will close out its weekend series against Green Bay tomorrow, with first serve set for 2:00 p.m.
