Butler's 72 Leads CSU to Opening-Round 301

RESULTS

BOARDMAN, Ohio - The Cleveland State University women's golf team opened its 2018-19 season Monday at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational with one of the five lowest-scoring rounds in program history.

The first round of the season was also the first with newly named head coach Mitchell Moore leading the program. This week's event is being played at Mill Creek Park's North Course, a par-72 measuring 5,957 yards.

CSU is in third place of eight teams at the midway point, with an opening-round 301 (+13). The 301 is tied for the fourth lowest cumulative score by the Vikings in program history.

Moore saw sophomore Madison Butler tie her career low with a round of even-par 72 that has her in a tie for fourth halfway through the event. Butler also began the Roseann Schwartz event with a 72 last year en route to medalist honors.

Sophomore Ashley Knight had a strong start to the season, shooting a +2 (74) that has her alone in ninth. Junior Kaylee Neumeister was one shot behind Knight, with a +3 (75) that has her in a tie for 10th.

Senior Rayna Oosterhuis made her competitive return to the course Monday, finishing with a +8 (80). Oosterhuis missed all of last season with an injury.

Freshman Grace Zimmerman rounded out CSU's lineup with a +12 (84).

Sophomore Amanda Baker and freshman Meg Rossouw both played as individuals and shot +6 (78) and +11 (83), respectively.

The second and final round of the event will be contested Tuesday with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.
