Howey in the Hills, FL-The Cleveland State women's golf team sits in eighth place after the opening round of the Horizon League Championship at Mission Resort on Saturday morning.
The Vikings carded a team score of 376 in the first round on the El Campeon golf course. The over 100-year-old layout played tough in the opening round with the morning start featuring wet and soft conditions.
Brynna Mardis led the way for the Vikings carding an 87 in the first round. Mardis posted a birdie on the sixth hole and finished at 14-over par for the day. She is tied for 30
th in the individual standings.
Kaylin Kline and
Mandie Ruminski each shot 16-over par 89 on Saturday. Ruminski posted three birdies in the opening round including one on the difficult par-4 18
th hole. Both are tied for 34
th place individually.
Abby Blackburn rounded out the Cleveland State lineup finishing with a 111 to sit in 39
th place.
Round two gets underway tomorrow with tee times shifting to the afternoon. Blackburn will be the first to tee off with a 12:12 p.m. starting time off the first tee.
