CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Clevealand State men's tennis team kicked off the 2018-19 season last weekend, with the trio of Nico Mostardi, Luke Phillips and Matthew Terry competing at the Oracle ITA Masters and Milwaukee Tennis Classic.

Nico Mostardi, who earned a spot in the prestigious 32-player draw by earning Horizon League Player of the Year honors last season, finished the weekend with a 1-2 singles record, advancing to the consolation draw quarterfinals. Mostardi's first win of the season came in a 6-4, 6-7(6), 6-4 decision over Northern Arizona's Tim Handel, and marked the 47th singles win of his career.
Mostardi also teamed up with Northern Kentucky's Margita Sunjic for the 32-team mixed doubles draw, with the pair dropping a 6-4 match against Virginia Tech's Mitch Harper and Miami's Estela Perez-Somarriba.

Milwaukee Tennis Classic | Milwaukee, Wis.
Luke Phillips and Matthew Terry had successful opening weekends at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, earning a spot in the tournament based off of last year's results and current Universal Tennis Rankings. Terry finished the weekend with a 3-1 singles record, posting three straight wins in the consolation singles draw, while Phillips finished with a 1-2 mark on the weekend.
The duo also teamed up for the doubles draw, dropping a hard fought 8-5 match against a Notre Dame tandem in the opening round.

Next up for the Vikings will be the ITA All-American Championship and Rocket Invitational. Nico Mostardi and Matthew Terry earned a spot in the prequalifying singles draw for the ITA All-American Championship in Tulsa, Oklahoma, while the rest of the Vikings will take part in the three-day Rocket Invitational in Toledo, Ohio.
