Cleveland State Takes Runner-Up Honors at EMU

FULL RESULTS

YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Cleveland State University women's golf team took runner-up honors at the Shirley Spork Invitational that ended Tuesday at Eagle Crest Golf Club.

CSU shot +25 (313) at the par-72, 6,176-yard course Tuesday to finish with a 36-hole score of +39 (615). The Vikings, who finished eighth in this event last season, finished two shots ahead of fellow Horizon League member Oakland and also placed in front of four Mid-American Conference schools.

Sophomore Madison Butler led the way for the Vikings Tuesday with a +1 (73). She made two birdies, one bogey and one double bogey in her round and played the final six holes in -1. Butler finished the event at +3 (147), tying for third place. It is her third top-3 showing in four events this fall.

Junior Kaylee Neumeister shot +7 (79) Tuesday to finish the tournament in a tie for fifth at +5 (149). It was her first top-five of the season and her second top-10.

Freshman Meg Rossouw and Grace Zimmerman finished with identical scores throughout the event. The duo shot +9 (81) Tuesday to finish the tournament at +16 (160).

Sophomore Ashley Knight gained two strokes from the opening round to shoot +8 (80). She finished the event at +18 (162).

Butler, who tied for the lead in the field with 26 pars, tied for the lead in the field in par-4 scoring (3.95) and par-5 scoring (4.88). Neumeister joined Butler in leading in par-5 scoring as they were two of the four players to finish under par on the par-5's in the event.

Zimmerman was one of six players to play the par-3's under par for the event as she was a cumulative -1 on those holes.

The finish is the first runner-up placement for CSU in a stroke-play event of at least 36 holes since the team won the 2017 League championship.

Cleveland State will close the fall season Oct. 14-15 at the MAC Preview.
