Vikings Top Duquesne, 2-1, in Exhibition Match

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Aliani Lorenzo scored with six minutes left to lift Cleveland State to a 2-1 victory over Duquesne in an exhibtion match on Saturday afternoon at Krenzler Field.

CSU finished the preseason with a 2-0 mark, which included Wednesday's 1-0 win at Buffalo.

McKenna Vento scored her second goal of the preseason just 7:14 into today's match when she took a through pass from Ashley Thiss and beak the goalkeeper to the far post.

It stayed that way until the 71:22 mark when Duquesne's Emilie Larsen scored from 30 yards out with a blast to the upper right corner.

Lorenzo's goal 13 minutes later proved to be the game-winner when Thiss played a ball behind that Dukes defense that Lorenzo was able to control in the box and beat the goalkeeper one-on-one.

Jamie Daniels made two saves in goal for CSU as she played the first 71:24, while Stevie Holbrook made two saves over the final 18:36.

CSU opens the 2017 regular season when the Vikings travel to Xavier for a 6:00 pm match on Friday (Aug. 18).
