Vikings Fall To Arizona In First Round Of NCAA Tournament

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Cleveland State volleyball team wrapped up the 2016 season Friday evening, falling to the Arizona Wildcats, 3-0 in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. The Vikings finished the season with a 25-6 overall record.

Match Stats
· Grace Kauth posted a team-high eight kills, while Alexis Middlebrooks and Trinniti Hall both added seven kills.
· Gina Kilner finished with 26 assists along with four kills and seven digs.
· Shannon Grega tallied a team-high 13 digs, while Grace Kauth added eight digs and Jordan Verbiak posted four.
· Grace Kauth and Rachael Dohar both recorded a service ace on the match.

Match Notes
· Cleveland State was making its fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament – and its second straight.
· The Vikings are the first Horizon League team to make back-to-back NCAA appearances since the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
· All four appearances have come under head coach Chuck Voss who was in his 17th season with the Vikings.
· This marked the final match for the senior trio of Grace Kauth, Aaliyah Slappy, and Sydney Mast.
· Friday's match against Arizona was the first-ever meeting between the Wildcats and the Vikings.
· Cleveland State notched its seventh 20-win season under head coach Chuck Voss, and marked the second highest single-season win total under Voss with the 25 victories.
· Grace Kauth finished her Viking career as one of the best all-around players in program history, ranking in the top-10 in seven CSU Career Record book categories.
· Grace Kauth became just the third Viking all-time to record 1,450 career kills against Arizona, finishing her career ranked third with 1, 457.
· Grace Kauth also finished her career ranked fourth with 1,240 career digs.
· Gina Kilner finished the year ranked sixth in the CSU Career Record book with 3,199 helpers.
· Alexis Middlebrooks ended the season ranked seventh with 308 career block assists and 10th with 346 total blocks.
· Aaliyah Slappy finished her Viking career ranked eighth with 295 block assists.
