Vikings Lead After First Round of Benbow Invitational

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Cleveland State women's golf team shot an opening round 326 and is in first place at the Benbow Invitational.

Playing for just the second time this spring and the first time in five weeks, the Vikings used matching 80's from Alyson Hackman and Shelly Ford to take a seven shot lead over Newberry into tomorrow's final round.

Hackman and Ford are tied for third place overall, four shots behind first round co-leaders Dismary Marquez of Alabama State and Ana Fernandez de Mes of IUPUI.

Colleen Miller is tied for seventh place after a first round 82, while Micaela Cronin carded an 84 and is tied for 15th place.

The field will play the final 18 holes on Tuesday.
