INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Cleveland State senior outside hitter Kara Koch has been named the Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Vikings in four matches last week. The league made the announcement Tuesday (Sept. 4) afternoon.
"Kara played great all week for us, she has a ton of confidence in herself which allows her to be such a strong player on the court for us," head coach Chuck Voss said. "She has worked really hard over the past year to get to this point and is well deserving of this award."
On the week, Koch recorded 78 kills on a .342 hitting percentage and notched 35 digs and seven blocks. Following her 78-kill week, Koch now ranks eighth on the CSU career kills list with 1,204.
In Tuesday's five-set victory at Eastern Michigan, Koch recorded the third 30-kill match of her career, posting 31 kills against the Eagles. Her 31-kill performance is tops in the Horizon League this year, while she was just four shy of tying her career-high. She also notched 21 digs at EMU, recording her second double-double of the season.
For the second straight week Koch earned all-tournament honors, as she was named to the Indiana Invitational All-Tournament Team over the weekend. She earned the honor after combining for 47 kills on a .349 hitting percentage.
After two weeks of play, Koch leads the conference in kills (128) and kills per set (5.12) and ranks eighth in hitting percentage (.302).
The Vikings will be back in action tonight (Tuesday, Sept. 4) as they host Pittsburgh at 7:00 p.m. in their first home contest of the season.
