THE KEY POINTS:
• Cleveland State hosts Toledo on Saturday (Dec. 1) at 2:00 p.m. in the Wolstein Center.
• It will be CSU's third home game of the season and the first since a win over Old Dominion on Nov. 17.
• The Vikings are 5-2 this season.
• Following an eight-day layoff, the Vikings returned to action with a 69-63 win at Ball State on Wednesday (Nov. 28).
• Toledo is 2-4 this year, including an 80-68 win over Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Wednesday (Nov. 28).
• Saturday's game will be the 11th all-time meeting between CSU and Toledo.
• The Rockets lead the all-time series, 6-4, but the Vikings have won three straight and four of the last six.
• Toledo will be the third of five Mid-American Conference opponents for CSU this year. It is the most games against the MAC, or any conference outside of CSU's, since the 1987-88 team went 3-2 versus the MAC.
• The Vikings have won 10 straight contests against schools from the MAC. The last defeat was an 84-69 setback to Kent State on Dec. 29, 2007.
ANOTHER NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER:
• Wednesday's game at Ball State was CSU's final game in November, giving the Vikings their sixth winning November under head coach Gary Waters.
• CSU is 35-15 (.700) under Waters in November.
• The lone losing November under Waters was 2008-09 when CSU went 3-4.
• The Vikings went 6-1 in November last season and were a perfect 8-0 in the first month of the season in 2010-11, making the Vikings 19-3 in November over the last three seasons.
THE HEAD VIKING:
• Gary Waters is in his seventh season at at CSU, making him the third longest tenured coach in program history behind Ray Dierenger (1969-83) and Homer E. Woodling (1929-41, 1952-53).
• Enters Saturday's game with 298 career wins, including 127 at CSU. He won 92 at Kent State and 79 at Rutgers.
• The game vs. Toledo will be his 212th contest at Cleveland State, moving him into sole possession of second place for most games coached at CSU. Kevin Mackey also coached in 211 contests.
FORBES LIGHTS IT UP:
• Freshman Bryn Forbes poured in a career-high 18 points at Ball State (Nov. 28), hitting 6-of-11 from the field and 4-of-8 from three.
• All 18 points came in the second half when he made six of his seven shots from field, including all four three-pointers.
• Scored 15 of CSU's points in an 18-2 run that helped Vikings turn a 51-44 deficit into a 62-53 lead over seven minute stretch.
DEFENSE DOMINATES BALL STATE:
• CSU's defense stifled Ball State in Wednesday's (Nov. 28) win.
• After starting the game 7-of-10 from the field, the Cardinals went just 12-of-37 (.324) over the final 34 minutes.
• CSU held the Cardinals without a field goal for almost nine minutes in the first half (11:20 until 3:42) and more than 11 minutes in the second half (12:16 until 0:35).
• Forced 19 BSU turnovers and turned them into 17 points.
ALL ABOUT TIM:
• Tim Kamczyc is the lone senior on this year's 13 man roster. He is in his fifth year after redshirting in 2008-09.
• Kamczyc has scored 710 career points, needing 290 to become 21st player in program history to score 1,000 points.
• Played in 109 consecutive games, 10th longest in CSU history. Has also made 81 straight starts.
• Career-high 7 assists in win over Old Dominion (Nov. 17).
• Scored career-high 21 points in overtime win against Bowling Green (Nov. 12), making career-best five three's.
• Ranks second in Horizon League at 37.3 minutes per game, playing at least 39 minutes in five games.
• Has already earned his undergraduate degree and is scheduled to receive his MBA in the spring.
A VERY GRADY SEASON:
• Anton Grady was tabbed as a player with "Breakout Potential" by several national publications this preseason.
• Among those who mentioned Grady were Jeff Goodman of CBSSports.com (ranked 11th of 30 players poised to breakout this year), Rob Dauster of College Basketball Talk and Luke Winn of Sports Illustrated who had Grady as one of six sophomores ready to breakout.
• Grady has not disappointed, averaging 13.7 points and 5.5 rebounds He also has 13 steals and eight blocked shots.
• His 53 career blocked shots are the 12th most in CSU history, five shy of moving into the top-10 on the list.
• Missed Ball State game (Nov. 28) with knee injury.
LEE GETS THE POINT:
• After serving as the backup point guard last year, Charlie Lee has taken over the starting job this year.
• Leads the team and is 8th in the league in scoring (14.9).
• Shooting .500 (34-68) from field, including .469 (15-32) from three-point. Also 21-of-26 (.808) at free throw line.
• Tied his career-high with 20 points at Robert Morris.
• Leads league with 5.5 assists per game, dishing out career-best 10 dimes vs. Bowling Green.
• Has 39 assists to just 19 turnovers, ranking second in league with a 2.1 assist-to-turnover ratio.
• Had first career double-double with 14 points and 10 assists in win over Bowling Green.
LOMOMBA DEBUTS:
• Freshman Junior Lomomba made his highly-anticipated collegiate debut at Robert Morris, coming back from a broken foot suffered in the summer.
• Had eight points and four assists in 25 minutes.
• Forced to come out of win at Ball State (Nov. 28) after re-aggravating foot injury after just two minutes.
LONG GETS FIRST START:
• With Anton Grady out at Ball State (Nov. 28), Devon Long stepped in to get his first career start.
• Had 10 points and three rebounds in career-best 25 minutes.
WORKING OVERTIME:
• The 79-73 overtime win over Bowling Green on Nov. 12 snapped CSU's streak of not playing an OT game at 170.
• Prior to that game, CSU had not played an OT contest since a 69-66 win over Florida State on Nov. 17, 2007.
SUCCESS 701:
• The seventh edition of Success Class under Waters is using Dave Dinunzio's book Think Like a Champion as the course text for the second straight year.
• Instituted at CSU in the summer of 2006, Waters uses Success Class to teach the Viking players the finer points of what it takes to succeed, both on the basketball court and in life.
• Other books used included John Wooden's book, The Pyramid of Success, Talent Is Never Enough by John Maxwell, Tony Dungy's book, Quiet Strength, and Maxwell's 17 Essential Qualities of a Team Player and Winning With People.
LOOKING AHEAD TO NEXT YEAR:
• CSU signed two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on Nov. 14. Ismaila Dauda and Demonte Flannigan will join the program for the 2013-14 academic year.
• The 6-foot-10 Dauda is from Kano, Nigeria and in his second year at Polk State College. He was a second team all-conference pick last season.
• Averaging 10.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game this year.
• Flannigan is a three-time first team all-state pick from Villa Angela-St. Joseph H.S.
• The 6-foot-8 Flannigan averaged 16.5 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.4 blocked shots per game as a junior.
