Results After 36 Holes
VERONA, N.Y. - Cleveland State opened the 2011-12 season by carding rounds of 307 and 291 and is in 11th place out of 14 teams at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate with a 36 hole total of 598.
The two-day, 54-hole event is being played at the par-72, 7,100 yard Turning Stone Resort (Kaluhyat Course).
"We didn't open with the round that we had hoped, but I was proud of the way we battled back in the afternoon round," head coach Steve Weir said. "This is a very good field and we are learning that we have the ability to compete with good teams. We just have to stay focused mentally and limit the mistakes that we make. I'm looking forward to seeing how we respond tomorrow."
The Vikings were in 13th place after the opening round, but tied for the seventh lowest second round to move up two spots. CSU is just eight shots behind sixth place Mount St. Mary's (590).
Jon Riemer was the top Viking finisher after 36 holes, firing rounds of 74-70 (144) to tie for 20th place. Andrew Bailey is one shot back at 145 (73-72) and is tied for 23rd.
Baylor leads the field at 13-under-par (563), three shots ahead of Purdue and four clear of Missouri.
The final round will be played on Monday (Sept. 5).
