CLEVELAND, Ohio - A hat trick from Aaron Adkins helped Cleveland State achieve its highest goal output of the season in a 4-0 victory over Loyola.
Adkins tallied his first goal in the ninth minute on the first of three Admir Suljevic assists. Adkins received the ball way outside the box and dribbled in, sneaking it past Loyola goalkeeper Peter McKeown to give CSU a 1-0 lead.
Aslinn Rodas scored in the 33rd minute when he lined a ball that ricocheted off the left post and caromed in for his first goal of the season.
The Vikings defense, coupled with the offense's ability to maintain possession for minutes at a time, didn't allow a Rambler shot on goal in the first half.
Adkins scored for the second time in the 54th minute when Jordan Hart, the hero of Wednesday's win at Pittsburgh, sent a beautiful ball to the middle of the pitch. A sliding Adkins scooted it into the goal to grow the Vikings lead to three.
The third and final goal from Adkins closed the scoring in the 56th minute off a ball from Zach Ellis-Hayden, the third consecutive match in which he recorded a point, and Suljevic.
Brad Stuver made two saves in the match to help the Vikings improve to 5-6-1 and 2-1-1 in the Horizon League. Loyola fell to 2-8-1 and 0-3 in the league.
The Vikings, winners in three straight, can now regroup before their lone match of the week, a Horizon League showdown with UIC in Chicago on Friday (Oct. 14) night at 8 p.m. EST.
