CLEVELAND, Ohio - Andrew Bailey shot a three-under-par 68 to earn medalist honors and help Cleveland State finish second of 14 teams at the CSU Invitational on Tuesday at the par-71, 7,012-yard Canterbury G.C.
The Vikings shot a 294 to finish as the tournament runner-up behind team champion IPFW which shot 289.
The event was cut back to 18 holes after the first and second rounds were canceled on Monday due to rain.
Bailey's 68 was his lowest round at CSU, besting his old mark of 70.
"Andrew played extremely well today," head coach Steve Weir said. "He had a great ball striking round, missed just one fairway and rolled the ball well on the greens all day."
Bailey, last year's Horizon League Newcomer of the Year and co-medalist at the league championship, started his day with back-to-back birdies on the first and second holes. He followed with seven straight pars to go out in 34. Bailey added birdies on the 10th and 12th holes to get it to four-under-par before his lone bogey of the day on the 16th hole, finishing at one-under-par 34 on the back nine.
"It was a shame we couldn't get out for the first two rounds yesterday with the weather, but the staff at Canterbury did a phenomenal job of getting the course in great condition today," Weir said. "But I thought we played well today overall as a team and this is a round that we can build upon moving forward."
Juniors Michael Klaric and Jon Riemer both shot 75 and tied for 24th place overall.
CSU finishes its fall slate when the Vikings compete at the UC Bearcat Invitational on Oct. 10-11.
