CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Emma Levy scored a pair of goals in the first 11 minutes to power Seattle to a 3-0 win over Cleveland State on Sunday afternoon at SU's Championship Field.
The loss, the fourth in five matches for the Vikings, dropped CSU to 4-4-2 on the year while Seattle improved to 5-4 overall.
"This was a terrible performance by the Vikings today," CSU head coach Derrek Falor said. "They looked nothing like the team that started the season out by playing so well.
"There is no redeeming value to our performance in any facet of the game. This was a match that we were capable of winning but we never gave ourselves a chance. To let up a goal on a long ball less than two minutes into the match is just wrong.
"I guess the only thing that went right is that we were able to get both Marley Greiner and Marina Taylor back on the field for the first time in three weeks and those will be two big additions once league play starts on Friday."
"It was good to be able to play the two matches in Seattle this weekend, but we need to take advantage of our opportunities and win tough matches," Falor said.
After a pre-match rain that soaked the natural grass field, the Vikings were caught off guard just 80 seconds into the match when Madison Goverde played a ball ahead to Levy, who was able to slip past the CSU defense and beat Viking netminder Kelly Zinkiewich for the goal.
Levy was at it again at the 10:37 mark when she gathered in a cross from Kara Kuttler, juked past a Viking defender and pounded in a shot from the doorstep to make it 2-0.
The defense held until the waning moments of the match when Mary Hill was in the right position to received the ball off a deflection by the CSU defense and launch a shot from 30 yards out that caught Zinkiewich off guard at the 85:59 mark.
The Vikings were out-shot in the match, 36-1, with Zinkiewich recording seven saves in goal. Nikki Bevilacqua had CSU's long shot.
The Vikings return home to Krenzler Field next week to put their unbeaten home record on the line this week when they open Horizon League play on Friday (Sept. 24) against Green Bay.
