Recap |  Notes

Cleveland State Head Coach Gary Waters:
"This was in my estimation a learning experience for our guys. They are still a little bit uptight, especially the younger ones. Those are the ones I want to see because we're going to need our younger guys, especially this weekend."

"Norris led the group as he should. We didn't do as well as we should at the free throw line. We're lucky this is an exhibition game. ANother concern of mine is rebounding. We lost that battle. Another is turnovers. We had 16 of those and I didn't like that. It's a learning experience and with quite a few guys down it gives other guys a chance to get experience."

"I have to play Norris longer than I want to and have to shift Jeremy over there, but it gives Josh McCoy and Charlie Woods more playing time. If we don't have a few guys back this weekend it will run its course."

"I could have played Aaron (Pogue) more, but he was good with it. He told me to get some of the younger guys a chance. We have made a committment to go into him more this year. This team isn't where it will be in January. It will be much better and will have more depth. We have to get through these periods and not get anyone else hurt."

"We have to get through some defensive issues and clean some things up. The first five did a great job of how we wanted to play this team. When I put the young kids in, they were just in there chasing their man and that's how you get beat. But they'll learn and I think they understood they couldn't get backcut."

Cleveland State's Norris Cole:
"I've seen progress everyday in practice. As a player and leader I'm never satisfied until I see a championship. The younger players are working hard, trying to get better and I appreciate their effort."

"Coach has been working with me ever since I was a freshman to be a leader. I get to set the example for next year's seniors so I am trying to be a good example for the guys."

"I learned some things (over the summer) to bring back to the players. I got to represent Cleveland State and the Horizon League and learn some things. It was a great experience."

Cleveland State's Charlie Woods:
"All the hard work over the summer pays off. I just have to keep moving up from there and never be satisfied where I am at."

Baldwin-Wallace Head Coach Duane Sheldon:
"We knew we had a challenge on our hands tonight. I think Cleveland State is going to be a very good team. They have some very good players. That number 30 (Norris Cole) really influenced a lot of what we were trying to do offensively. He's truly a great player."

"I thought our guys came out and competed. The obvious difference was the length and the size. We're not satisfied by any means. We have a week to get better before we tip it off for the first game. If you told me before the game that we were going to out-rebound them, I would have taken it."

"We approached it in a way we thought we could be successful in those four minute media timeouts. They won the first two in the first half, we won the next one and then they picked it up to another level during the last stretch of the first half. We wanted to win the next possession and break it down into four minute games. Our guys bought into that and competed up to the last second. It was a great experience for our young men, to play in a Division I arena. Coach Waters does a great job and we hope they have us back someday."
