OXFORD, Ohio -- The Vikings continued to have trouble with their goaltending and defense on set plays on Sunday as three-goal barrage in the five minutes around halftime resulted in a 4-0 loss at Miami (OH).
The loss, CSU's sixth straight, dropped the Vikings to 1-7 on the year while Miami improved to 4-3.
"The score really doesn't reflect our play today," CSU head coach Derrek Falor said. "For the first 33 minutes of the match, we controlled play and set the tempo. It was just like the other night against Robert Morris where we controlled the ball but just couldn't put one in the net.
"Then we let up a bad goal and everything turned sour," Falor said.
The goal came at the 33:42 mark when Viking netminder Kelly Zinkiewich couldn't control a long ball. She fumbled it twice, the second touch deflecting to the foot of Allison Berkey who one-timed it into the goal.
"Once Miami scored, we seemed to play on our heels for awhile and let Miami come at us instead of pushing play at them," Falor added.
With the half ending, the RedHawks made it 2-0 when Kersta Carlson and Julie Thompson connected on a give-and-go within the box with Thompson scoring from five yards out with just 24 seconds left in the half.
Miami scored again just 2:28 into the second half when Brooke Livingston headed home a corner kick from Carlson. The RedHawks closed out the scoring at the 49:58 mark when Jess Kodiak scored on a rebound off a shot by Jodi Zwingelberg.
The rest of the match was a draw as neither team scored in the final 40 minutes.
CSU ended the contest being out-shot, 15-8, with Zinkiewich making three saves for the Vikings. Miami's Lrista pace made three saves to record the shutout.
The Vikings remain on the road this week, playing at IUPUI on Friday (Sept. 25) before opening up Horizon League play at Wright State on Sunday (Sept. 27).
