Indianapolis, Ind. - Although the Cleveland State men's soccer team was able to score a goal in each half, IUPUI matched them goal-for-goal ending the match in a double overtime 2-2 draw. The tie brings both teams to 1-2-1 on the season.

"It was a long trip for us to get out here today, and when we did get here we had to wait for the first match to get over, but despite this we played very well today," said head coach Ali Kazemaini. "We put together two good halves and we had a lot of possessions throughout the match. We were able to create offensive chances and we really deserved a better outcome than a tie."

Freshman Aaron Adkins recorded the first goal for the Vikings at the 19 minute mark, recording his second career goal. Adkins had an open shot from ten yards out beating the goalie to the near post. Stephen Byer tallied the assist on the goal, feeding Adkins from the right side of the box.

IUPUI's Michael Wignot tied the match at 1-1 at the beginning of the second half with a header from three yards out beating Viking goalie Almir Suljevic low and to the left. Emile Garcia had the assist on the play.

"We came from California where we faced two really strong teams," said Kazemaini. "We weren't really surprised by anything that IUPUI did tonight. They tried to play wide and were successful with that when they scored their first goal, but other than that we did a good job defensively."

Slavisa Ubiparipovic gave CSU a 2-1 lead when he recorded the second goal for the Vikings in the 65th minute. Ubiparipovic had a header from five yards out on the left side of the box after Marco DiFranco was able to cross the ball to him.

The Jaguars were able to tie the game once again at 2-2 with ten minutes remaining in the second half when Yogi Snider had an unassisted goal. Snider's shot hit the inside of the left post bouncing in and out of the net sending the match into overtime.

The Vikings and Jaguars weren't able to capitalize on any shots during the two overtime periods, ending the match in a 2-2 draw. The shots were even throughout the match with IUPUI recording 18 and CSU tallying 16.

In his first CSU appearance, Almir Suljevic had four saves protecting the net. Brad Stuver took over in the net with one minute left in regulation time, continuing into overtime recording two saves.

"During practice we need to work on clearing the ball out of the dangerous areas," Kazemaini said. "If we don't do this the ball ends up in the back of our net like tonight."

The Vikings have a full week off before their next match at Buffalo Friday (Sept. 18). Kickoff for the match is set for 7:00 p.m.
