LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Host Kentucky scored a pair of goals in the first seven minutes to stop Cleveland State's school record win streak at four with a 4-0 win over the Vikings on Sunday afternoon at the UK Soccer Complex.

The loss drops the Vikings back below the .500 mark at 4-5 while Kentucky improves to 2-5-1.

"This was definitely a tough matchup for us today because of their size and speed," CSU head coach Derrek Falor said. "I thought that we needed to play a team of this caliber before we opened league play next week because in the long run, it will help us.

"We started out slowly and Kentucky took advantage. All four of their goals came on similar plays where they crossed a ball from the wing and were able to find players open in the middle.

"We've come a long way since last year and I am looking forward to starting the Horizon League schedule next week. We are going to have to play our best soccer to get some wins because we will play most of the teams picked to finish at the top of the standings at home and travel to the teams in the bottom half."

Kentucky opened the scoring just 2:28 into the match when Katie Fahay received a ball from the left wing and tapped it home from just three yards out.

The Wildcats added another marker at the 7:25 mark when Nicole Holdsworth found a loose ball in the box and scored from just five yards out.

"We didn't do a very good job of finding the open players on either of those goals and it cost us," Falor said.

The Vikings settled down after that, holding Kentucky scoreless until the 53rd minute when Laura Novikoff scored off a centering pass from Ashley Stack. The Wildcats then closed the scoring at the 69:09 mark when Giuleana Lopez scored from 15 yards out.

Kentucky held a commanding 24-4 shooting edge, including 16-1 in the opening half. Kelly Zinkiewich made five saves for CSU in goal.

The Vikings continue the 2008 season when they return home to open the Horizon League schedule when they host Wright State on Friday, Sept. 26 at 7:00 p.m. at Krenzler Field.
