LAWRENCE, Kan. - Cleveland State shot a first round 309 and cut 10 shots off that total in the afternoon round to stand in 14th place out of 16 teams after the first two rounds of the Jayhawk Invitational on Monday at the par-72, 7,092-yard Alvamar G.C.

"We just didn't play well today and there are no excuses," head coach Steve Weir said. "We played this course last year, the weather conditions were ideal and there were opportunities to score. We just didn't get it done today. Hopefully we will be able to bounce back with a good round tomorrow."

The Vikings two round total of 608 is two shots back of 13th place Northern Iowa and six behind UMKC and Western Kentucky who are tied for 11th place.

South Dakota State (579) holds a one shot lead over UC Davis and TCU in the team race.

CSU senior Jake Scott carded two rounds of 75 and is tied for 34th place. Kyle Cobb and Kent Monas are one shot back in a tie for 46th place. Following an opening round 80, Monas came back strong in the afternoon session with a team-low 71.

The event will conclude on Tuesday morning with the final 18 holes. Action will get underway at 8:30 a.m. CDT.
