CLEVELAND, Ohio - Beth Greulich had a match-high 16 kills and Kayla Lefeld recorded her second double-double in the last three matches to lead Cleveland State to a 3-0 sweep over Youngstown State in Horizon League action on Tuesday night in Woolding Gym.

Match scores were 25-19, 25-21, 25-20.

Lefeld finished with 12 kills and 11 digs, while Jordan Goad also had a double-double effort with 45 assists and 11 digs. Amy Benz chipped in nine kills and Lindsey Griffith finished with seven. Jordan Bateman had a match-best 15 digs and Amy Grabiec had 11.

The Vikings, who improved to 3-12 overall and 2-4 in league play, defeated the Penguins for the 16th straight time. YSU fell to 8-8 overall (1-1 HL).

CSU had a new look lineup, as freshman Megan Barhorst drew her first career start outside with Lefeld, while Beth Greulich joined Amy Benz in the middle.

"We decided to try a new starting lineup tonight and I saw some pretty good results," head coach Chuck Voss said. "We played with a lot of energy and hit the ball well. Once again, we were very strong on defense and our blocking at the net was great.

"It was nice to play at home," Voss said, referring to the fact that CSU was playing at home for just the third time in 15 matches this season. "Hopefully this will allow us to establish an identity on our home court and help us get on a roll."

CSU never trailed in the first two sets and was behind just one time all night, when YSU scored the first point of the third set.

Otherwise, the night belonged to the Vikings who took an 11-6 lead in the opener on a Barhorst kill. The Penguins never got within two points the rest of the set as CSU held them to a .088 (9-6-34) hitting percentage.

The second set was much of the same as CSU broke open a 6-6 tie with a 10-4 run to take a six-point lead (16-10). Greulich had three kills during the run and finished with seven kills in the set, while hitting .600 (7-1-10).

After YSU took its first lead of the night on the opening serve of the third set, the Vikings came back to score 11 of the next 17 points. The Penguins could not cut the deficit under two points the rest of the way as Greulich was once again solid at the net, hitting .714 (6-1-7) in the final set.

Ebony Barbosa had nine kills and nine digs for the Penguins, while Ruth Boscaljon tallied nine kills. Karla Everhart handed out 23 assists, while Amanda Gray finished with 14 digs.

CSU will continue its three-match homestand on Saturday (Oct. 11) afternoon when the Vikings host Green Bay beginning at 4:00 p.m. in Woodling Gym.
