Cleveland State swept past Rider, 30-18, 30-23, 30-17, in the opening match of the Duquesne Invitational on Friday afternoon. The Vikings hit .405 (45-11-84) as a team and trailed just twice briefly in the match en route to evening their record at 1-1.
Senior outside hitter Emily Clark paced CSU with her second straight double-double, finishing with 12 kills, 12 digs and a career-high .579 (12-1-19) hitting percentage. Senior outside hitter Jenna Maddocks and junior middle hitter Danielle Siefker both tallied nine kills with Siefker posting a .538 hitting percentage (9-2-13). Sophomore setter Mel Snyder added a career-high five kills, 30 assists and a pair of aces.
Stefanie Lombardo and Katrina Stehle led the Broncs (0-3) with 10 kills apiece.
The Vikings held Rider to a .092 (33-24-98) hitting percentage while compiling a 36-26 advantage in digs.
"I am pleased with how we executed offensively today -- our passing was excellent," CSU head coach Chuck Voss said. "Emily did a real nice job and we were able to get a lot of people some playing time."
On Saturday, Cleveland State will take on St. Francis (Pa.) at 1:30 p.m. and the host Dukes at 7:00 p.m. in the finale of the Duquesne Invitational.
