Final Stats

CLEVELAND (AP) - Trevor Huffman made a driving layup and two free throws in the final 24 seconds, leading Kent State to a 66-62 win over Cleveland State on Saturday night in the second game of the Rock-N-Roll Shootout.

In the opener, No. 17 Cincinnati routed Akron 73-57.

Huffman scored 14 points and Antonio Gates had 20 for the Golden Flashes (6-4), who led 62-59 with 2:43 left when Gates converted a 3-point play.

The Vikings (5-5) tied it with 1:48 remaining on Jermaine Robinson's layup.

But Huffman, who was quiet for most of the second half, hit his drive with 53 seconds left.

Theo Dixon then missed a running 12-footer for Cleveland State, which had to foul Huffman, an 88-percent shooter from the line, with 24.7 seconds to go.

Cleveland State missed a pair of 3-point attempts, and Kent State was able to run out the clock.

It was a typical clutch performance by Huffman, a senior guard who led Kent State to the Mid-American Conference tournament title last season and an NCAA tourney win over Indiana.

Jamaal Harris scored 17 points and Dixon 13 for the Vikings, who got coach Rollie Massimino his 500th career win Thursday night with a victory over Duquesne.

Gates added nine rebounds and Andrew Mitchell had 12 points for Kent, which won despite making just one of 18 3-point attempts.

Mitchell scored six points in an 8-0 run that helped Kent State overcome a six-point deficit in the second half.
