Senior swingman Theo Dixon (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) scored a game-high 28 points as Cleveland State beat Siena 83-66 Saturday afternoon at Goodman Arena.
Sophomore point guard Jermaine Robinson (Philadelphia, Pa./Simon Gratz) added 13 points and eight assists while sophomore Jerrod Calhoun (Cleveland, Ohio/Villa Angela-St. Joseph) contributed 12 points coming off the bench, going 4-of-6 from the field.
"We go a terrific boost from Jerrod Calhoun," Massimino noted. "He's a first-year player, in fact the first three guys off the bench are, and he did a good job at the guard spot."
The game started out slow and the teams were tied at 21-all at the 4:12 mark. However the Vikings turned it up to close out the half, going on a 16-2 run to take a 37-23 advantage to the locker room at intermission. The closest the Saints got in the second half was within 13 points at 72-59 with 2:21 remaining.
Cleveland State also got 11 points from senior guard Jamaal Harris (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) and 10 from junior forward Tahric Gosley (Philadelphia, Pa./Simon Gratz).
Dwayne Archbold led Siena with 22 points while Prosper Karangwa added 16 coming off the bench.
The Saints took a 44-37 rebounding advantage with James Clinton pulling down a game-high nine. Robinson led the Vikings with seven.
CSU shot 52 percent (26-of-50) from the field compared to 35.5 percent (22-of-62) for the Saints.
During halftime, 46 members of the New York City Fire Department were honored in a ceremony on the court.
