Marc Proto enters his first year as the Cleveland State Director of Basketball Sports Performance.
Proto will work directly with Coach Summers and the men’s coaching staff on developing and executing a strength and conditioning program.
Prior to his arrival at Cleveland State, Proto spent four seasons at Boston College as the head strength & conditioning coach for men’s basketball. Proto worked with Coach Grant as the Director of Sports Performance at the College of Charleston before moving with him to BC.
Proto oversaw the wide-ranging programs for all of CofC’s student-athletes to increase performance capability, decrease injury potential and develop all components of their athleticism. He was also responsible for all in-season and off-season aspects of strength training and athletic development with the Cougars’ men’s basketball program.
Proto spent nearly four seasons as the Director of Strength and Conditioning for Olympic sports and head basketball strength coach at Temple University. While at Temple, Proto oversaw the design and implementation of strength and conditioning programs for 21 different teams along with both basketball squads. He began his time at Temple as an assistant strength and conditioning coach with the football team in 2007.
Proto holds a number of professional certifications, including Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), USA Olympic Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach (USAW), Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES), Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES), Functional Movement Screen Expert (FMS), Certified Speed and Explosion Specialist and CPR/AED certified.
Proto is a 1999 graduate of Connecticut College, finishing with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He earned his master’s degree in sport psychology from Temple in 2011.
