Casey Perrin

Casey Perrin enters his second season assistant coach of the Cleveland State men’s basketball team.

Perrin helped with bringing in an entire new team in his first year, aiding the Vikings to an 11-22 overall record and a 6-14 mark in Horizon League games. Perrin assisted in three players receiving Horizon League honors with two special awards: Chevalier Emery (Sixth Man of the Year) and Tre Beard (Sportsmanship Award). Dayan Nessah was named to the All-League Third Team.

In year one, the team set season records in three-pointers made (357), three-pointers attempted (953), and free throw percentage (.753). The Vikings also finished with the fourth most points in a season (2,633) and on the fourth most field goals made (965) and attempted (2,136). Shooting from beyond the arc was a big factor, tying the game record (16) on four occasions before breaking it with 17 against Oakland inside Woodling Gymnasium.

Off the court, the Green and White had the highest GPA in the department for men’s sports with a 3.62 GPA. Ten players were named to the Dean’s List while the entire team had a GPA above a 3.00.

Perrin comes to Cleveland State after three seasons as an assistant coach at Louisiana. In 2022-23, he helped the team the second most wins in program history (26), a Sun Belt Conference Championship, and an NCAA Tournament appearance. Under his guidance, Louisiana finished Top 25 in field goal percentage and three-point percentage.

Perrin spent six seasons under Chris Beard between Texas Tech and the University of Texas. He began at Texas in 2021-22 as Director of Basketball Operations before heading to Texas Tech. In his time with the Red Raiders, the teams posted an overall record of 112-55 including a 9-3 record in the NCAA Tournament.

Texas Tech advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time in program history in 2018 and followed it up with a National Championship Game appearance in 2019, setting a program record for wins in a season with 31.

Perrin played four seasons at Campbell University from 2012-16, receiving Big South Conference Presidential Honor Roll honors as a senior.

Perrin earned his bachelor’s degree from Campbell in Health and Physical Education. He went on to earn a master’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from Texas Tech in 2018.

Perrin is joined in Cleveland by his wife, Chelsea and his daughter, Olivia.
