Box Score CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State (6-6, 4-2) upended Le Moyne 13-10 (3-11, 2-4) in the home finale on Friday night. With the victory, the Green and White secured the programs second postseason birth and first in the NEC tournament.
The Dolphins began the scoring before goals by
Adam Van Voorhis and
Evan Knickle put the Vikings on top, 2-1, with 9:31 remaining in the first quarter. Le Moyne bagged a goal with 46 seconds remaining as the game moved to the second frame tied at two apiece.
Knickle and
Landon Whalen each found the back of the net to regain a 4-2 advantage at the 8:12 mark. Following a Dolphins goal,
Griffin Burkey and Whalen scored to make it 6-3 with 5:33 left in the half. A man-up goal for the visitors with 1:07 showing sent the game into the break at 6-4 in favor of the home team.
Le Moyne scored the first goal of the third quarter, but strikes from Whalen and
Ethan Erker bumped the margin to 8-5 with 8:54 to go. The Dolphins ended the quarter with two unanswered goals to get within one, 8-7.
Creed McDonald scored less than a minute into the final frame, and Erker followed with a goal at the 12:50 mark as the Green and White led 10-7. After the Dolphins got a goal back,
Mattix Groves and Whalen each scored to make it 12-8 with 3:33 showing.
Three goals came in the final 25 seconds, with Van Voorhis sandwiching two Dolphins goals as the Green and White won at home, 13-10.
Whalen finished with a game-best six points on four goals and two assists. This was the second hat-trick of his career.
Robbie Stewart went 12-of-22 in the faceoff circle with a game-best nine ground balls.
Seth Alejandrino forced five turnovers and scooped up five ground balls.
