CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Vikings (2-9-1, 2-2-1) ended the weekend with a tough 3-2 loss to NIU (3-5-3, 2-2-1) on Sunday afternoon. All five goals in the game came in the second half of the contest.
The first half went scoreless with the Green and White being outshot 11-2 but held a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Vikings bagged the first goal when
Cortlyn Hefty finished off a ball over the top from
Elise Boyd in the 64th minute. The Huskies drew even in the 77th minute as Monica Correa finished off a pair of passes from the top of the box.
Cleveland State needed just two minutes to answer as
Madison Wright scored her first collegiate goal from 45-yards out off a pass from
Ryleigh Alcala. Three minutes later, NIU again drew even with a volley off a diagonal ball.
The Huskies claimed their first lead in the 85th minute after finishing off a shot that originally banged off the post.
Cleveland State had eight shots with half of those on frame. The corner kicks favored the home team 7-5.
Sidney Nicholas led the way with three shots.
Hayleigh Lewis made four saves in goal.
Cleveland State caps off the three-game home stretch on Saturday, Oct. 10 against Detroit at 1 p.m.
