Cleveland State Men's Basketball Falls to Detroit Mercy, 94-84

DETROIT – Cleveland State (5-13, 1-6 Horizon League) fell to Detroit Mercy (7-9, 4-3 Horizon League), 94-84, on Sunday afternoon at Calihan Hall.

Senior guard Jaidon Lipscomb (Columbus, Ohio) posted a career-high and game-high 30 points on 10-of-18 shooting. Lipscomb was 9-of-16 from the three-point line in 34 minutes on the floor.

Junior guard Chevalier Emery (Appleton, Wisconsin) added 19 points and a team-high six assists on 5-of-14 shooting and 2-of-6 from the three-point line. Sophomore forward Dayan Nessah (Geneva, Switzerland) posted 13 points after going 6-of-8 from the free throw line. Nessah was 3-of-7 from the field with one made three.

As a team, Cleveland State was 27-of-58 (46.6%) from the field and 15-of-33 (45.5%) from the three-point line. Detroit Mercy shot 29-of-65 (44.6%) from the field and 10-of-22 (45.5%) from deep. UDM won the free throw battle, going 26-of-31 (83.9%) while the Vikings were 15-of-24 (62.5%).

Nessah recorded his second double-double of the season after pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds. Cleveland State was outrebounded 49-27. Detroit had 18 second-chance points while the Vikings had six.

Eighteen of the Vikings' 27 shots were assisted, with Emery leading the team at six. Lipscomb added four.

After the game was tied 5-5 early, UDM jumped out to a five-point lead at the 16:59 mark of the first half and the lead hovered around that for five minutes. Detroit Mercy's biggest lead of the first half came at the 7:07 mark of 36-20. Cleveland State was able to cut into the Titans' lead, making the game 43-40 with 1:14 remaining after an 11-0 run from the Vikings. Detroit Mercy led 46-40 at the break.

UDM pushed the lead out of the break to double-digits, with their biggest lead coming at the 6:01 mark of the second half of 21. CSU was able to chip away at the Titans advantage for the rest of the game but fell, 94-84.
