Cleveland State’s Dayan Nessah Set to Compete in FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup

Lausanne, Switzerland-Incoming Cleveland State sophomore Dayan Nessah will showcase his talents on an international stage this weekend as he competes in the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup beginning on Saturday, June 28. Nessah will compete for the Switzerland National Team.

Nessah, who originally hails from Geneva, will be competing in his home country as Switzerland qualified for the tournament for the first time as the host nation. The Swiss team is riding a wave of momentum after posting its highest ever finish in the U18 event last summer.

The competition features 16 teams from across the world split into four four-team groups. Switzerland is in Group C along with the Dominican Republic, Israel and Jordan. The teams will each face off against each other in a three-game round robin format in the group stage. All teams will then advance to the knockout phase where a 16-team bracket will result in a champion being crowned on July 6.

Nessah comes to Cleveland State after playing his freshman season at George Washington. He competed for the Swiss U18 squad last summer before appearing in 19 total games last season at GW. Nessah joins a roster of 14 student-athletes set to suit up in the green and white for the first time this season under new head coach Rob Summers.

Nessah and the Switzerland team will kick off their World Cup run with a game against Israel on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. EST. Switzerland will then face off with the Dominican Republic on Sunday at 11:15 a.m. and will close the group stage against Jordan at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The knockout round begins on Wednesday, July 2 with the championship game scheduled for Saturday, July 6. All games can be streamed on YouTube with the links attached to this story.
