Cleveland, OH-Tre Beard is the newest addition to the Cleveland State men's basketball roster, head coach Rob Summers announced today. Beard comes to Cleveland after three seasons at Shawnee State University. Beard will have one year of eligibility remaining.
"I love the edge and joy Tre plays with," said Coach Summers. "He'll fit seamlessly into our style — fast, fun, and team-first. He's ready to be challenged and develop, and that's what we do here."
Beard, a 5-11 guard from Chillicothe, Ohio, put up impressive numbers in his three-year career at Shawnee State. This past season, he averaged 19.1 points per game and shot 49 percent from the floor and 47 percent from three-point range. Beard finished at 91 percent from the free throw line and added three rebounds and three assists per game to his stat totals. Beard was named an NAIA All-American and the 2025 River States Conference Player of the Year. Overall Beard led SSU to a 103-52 record in his time with the program. He played under current Cleveland State assistant coach Michael Hunter who was the head coach at Shawnee State previously.
In high school Beard averaged over 12 points per game in his final two seasons at Chillicothe High School. He was named an OHSAA Division I Southeast District Special Mention honoree as well as an Honorable Mention Division I All-State selection. He was named to the All-Frontier Athletic Conference team twice and ranked as the OHSAA's all-time leader in career three-point percentage finishing at 48.7 percent.
Upon announcing his commitment Beard added, "I chose Cleveland State because of the culture and the focus on development. The coaches care about who you are as a person just as much as who you are as a player. This is the place where I know I'll grow every single day."
