Frogner & Polito Earn Major #HLTennis Awards; Heren, Vevere & Vicario Also Honored

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After capturing the Horizon League Regular Season title and clinching the No. 1 seed for the upcoming #HLTennis Tournament last weekend, the Cleveland State women's tennis team was honored with multiple postseason accolades from the league, with Filippa Frogner, Sima Heren, Tereze Vevere, Oihane Vicario, and Frank Polito all earning postseason awards.
 
Heren and Vicario were both named to the First Team, while Vevere earned a spot on the Second Team, Frogner was named the Herb Foster Sportsmanship Award honoree and Polito was named the Coach of the Year.
 
SIMA HEREN | SR | FIRST TEAM
Heren picks up First Team honors after posting a 23-9 record on the year, marking her second straight 20-win campaign. For the most part, Heren played at No. 2 singles this spring, including a 4-2 record against league opponents.
 
For her career, Heren is one of three Vikings all-time to eclipse the 80-win mark, and currently ranks third on the CSU Singles Wins List with 82 career victories.
 
In doubles, Heren has played the majority of the season with Oihane Vicario, owning a 16-7 record on the year, including a 4-1 mark against league opponents at the No. 1 spot. In the fall, the duo captured the doubles title at the Horizon League Individual Championships, and currently ranks eighth on the CSU Doubles Wins List with 24 career wins as a tandem.
 
Heren becomes a four-time All-League honoree, earning Second Team honors in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
 
OIHANE VICARIO | SR | FIRST TEAM
Vicario was named to the First Team after posting a 19-6 overall record on the year, including a 5-1 record against league opponents at the top of the lineup. For her career, Vicario now owns a 21-2 record against league opponents during regular season matches.
 
During the year, Vicario picked up Horizon League Singles Player of the Week accolades three times, marking a league best for the year. Vicario also moved into second place on the CSU Singles Wins List, entering #HLTennis tournament play with 84 career wins.
 
In doubles, Vicario has played the entire season with Sima Heren, owning a 16-7 record on the year, including a 4-1 mark against league opponents at the No. 1 spot. In the fall, the duo captured the doubles title at the Horizon League Individual Championships, and currently ranks eighth on the CSU Doubles Wins List with 24 career wins as a tandem.
 
Vicario becomes just the third Viking to be named to the All-League First Team during all four years of her career, while she is the 14th four-time First Team honoree in #HLTennis history.
 
TEREZE VEVERE | SR | SECOND TEAM
Vevere earns a spot on the Second Team after posting a team-best 25-8 singles record during the season, including a perfect 6-0 mark against league opponents. Through dual match play, Vevere played the majority of the season at the No. 3 spot, and notched her fourth straight 20-win campaign.
 
During the season, Vevere became the program's all-time wins leader in singles and doubles, entering #HLTennis tournament play with 88 career singles wins and 65 career doubles wins with Ella Franz.
 
In doubles, Vevere and Franz have a team-best 23-4 record on the year, including a perfect 5-0 mark against league opponents at the No. 2 spot. The duo's 23 wins ranks second on the CSU Single-Season Wins List – behind their own record of 26 wins set last season.
 
Vevere picks up her third All-League accolade after earning First Team honors last year and Second Team honors in 2023.
 
FILIPPA FROGNER | HERB FOSTER SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD
Frogner picks up Sportsmanship recognition after spending the 2024-25 campaign as a team captain during her senior season. In addition, Frogner is also a CSU SAAC Officer, while she is one of two Horizon League SAAC Representatives.
 
In the words of head coach Frank Polito "Every team has that one player who does everything. Her attitude is infectious, her effort is inspiring and her presence is irreplaceable."
 
Frogner becomes the fifth Viking to earn the Herb Foster Sportsmanship Award, and second over the last three seasons.
 
FRANK POLITO | COACH OF THE YEAR
Polito was named the Coach of the Year after guiding the Vikings to their seventh #HLTennis Regular Season title following a perfect 6-0 league slate. Entering tournament play, the Vikings own a 12-9 overall record, and are on a current eight-match win streak.
 
This marks the second Horizon League Coach of the Year honor for Polito, making him one of just two league coaches to earn multiple Coach of the Year accolades over the last 10 years.
