Cleveland, OH-The Cleveland State softball team made it six wins in a row on Saturday as the Vikings defeated Green Bay 5-2 in the opening game of a three-game series at Viking Field.

Cleveland State scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning and two more in the bottom of the fifth to take the series opener. Eight of Cleveland State's nine starters recorded a hit in the game in a well-rounded offensive attack.

The two teams were scoreless through the first two innings before Green Bay got on the board first in the top of the third. Cleveland State responded by loading the bases with one out in the bottom of the frame and
Sydney Shammo delivered the key hit with a single up the middle to score both
Kylie Gorsuch and
Sophie Spellman.
Delaney Ellis would later reach on a fielding error to bring the third run of the inning home and make it 3-1 CSU.

Emma Gilkerson delivered another home run in the fifth inning to add to the Viking lead. Gilkerson crushed a two-run shot to dead center field which was good for her team-leading eighth of the season. Cleveland State led 5-1 through five innings.

Green Bay pushed a run across in the sixth but
Melissa Holzopfel continued her outstanding play in the circle as she did not allow the Phoenix to get any closer. Holzopfel pitched a complete game scattering eight hits and striking out 11 while walking just two. Holzopfel has recorded double-digit strikeout numbers in three of her last four starts.

The two teams return to action at Viking Field for a doubleheader scheduled for Sunday with the first game scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
