ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The Vikings (2-5) wrapped up non-conference play with an 8-6 setback against St. Bonaventure (4-4) on Saturday afternoon.
The Bonnies opened the scoring two minutes into the game before
Amiri Austin netted the Vikings first goal for the second straight game with 10:50 showing. St. Bonaventure went back on top with 8:35 remaining, but Wyatt Robinson retied it less than a minute later.
St. Bonaventure found the back of the net with 4:34 to go in the quarter to take a 3-2 advantage into the second quarter.
Jacob Lubrant knotted the game back up off a feed from Austin with 13:48 left in the first half. Two minutes later, the home team went ahead before
Griffin Burkey evened the game back up with 10:36 to go. However, St. Bonaventure closed the half with two unanswered goals, including one with six seconds left, to lead 6-4 at halftime.
The third quarter went scoreless, and neither team scored again until SBU found the back of the net with 8:59 remaining in the fourth quarter, leading 7-4.
Adam Van Voorhis got a goal back with 5:41 left, but St. Bonaventure answered with 1:41 to go as the lead stood at 8-5.
Alex Van Voorhis converted on the man-up with one minute left in the contest off Austin's second assist of the game as the Green and White fell, 8-6.
Robbie Stewart went 10-of-17 in the faceoff circle with a game-best seven ground balls.
Griffin Valli, Robertson, and
Drew Graves each finished with three caused turnovers.
Justin Dalum made eleven saves in the cage.
Cleveland State will play its first-ever NEC game on Saturday, March 15 at Wagner with a noon start.
