SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Cleveland State (3-5, 1-1) wrapped up its four-game road trip with an 11-6 loss against Le Moyne (5-3, 2-0) on Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks tallied the first two goals in an eleven-second span to claim a 2-0 lead with 12:41 remaining in the opening quarter. Reigning Freshman of the Week,
Creed McDonald, got the Vikes on the board with an unassisted tally at the 8:08 mark. Le Moyne came right back with consecutive goals to take a 4-1 advantage into the second quarter.
Amiri Austin cut the deficit in half with an unassisted tally just 48 seconds into the second quarter. The home team answered with three unanswered goals, extending the margin to 7-2 with 9:13 to go in the first half.
McDonald got a goal back, but Le Moyne matched it with 4:04 showing to take an 8-3 lead into the half.
The first goal of the new half belonged to the Green and White as
Alex Van Voorhis converted on the man-up off a pass from
Xander Johnson. Following a Seahawks goal,
Jacob Lubrant struck with an unassisted tally to trail 9-5 with 6:59 remaining in the third.
Le Moyne accounted for the next two goals to lead 11-5 with one quarter left in regulation.
The only goal of the fourth quarter came on the man-up as Lubrant scored his second of the game off an assist from
Alex Van Voorhis as the Green and White fell 11-6.
McDonald and Lubrant each finished with two goals.
Robbie Stewart went 11-of-19 in the faceoff circle. Stewart and
Drew Graves each had four ground balls, which were a game-best.
Justin Dalum made six saves on the day.
Cleveland State will play its first-ever home NEC game on Saturday, March 29 against VMI at noon.
